Many children are capable of learning a new letter sound each day, while others would prefer to learn a new sound each week. Whatever the case may be, let your student be the guide. Once he or she has learned a new sound, introduce the corresponding worksheets. The worksheets can also be used to teach number recognition. Each day, have your student say the number that appears at the top of the page he or she is working on.
The great thing about Gospel Phonics is that you can have your students reading before the year has ended! Once your students have learned all the letter sounds, introduce the Word Challenge section of the curriculum. Cut out the letter sounds provided at the end of the workbook and have your students build the dictated words. First say each sound slowly while the student builds then say the word. For example:
qu-i-ck: quick
t-ie: tie
a-b-ou-t: about
h-e-l-p-er: helper
We trust that you'll have little readers on your hands in no time!
Blessings,
C. M. Hamilton, OCT, B.Ed., B.A.
